Dr. Bryon K. Evans is the Clinical Director and CEO of Psychiatric Consultants of Atlanta. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Masters of Science degree in biology from North Carolina Central University, summa cum laude, and Medical Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Evans completed his training in adult psychiatry at New York University Medical Center in New York City; his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and his forensic psychiatry fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Evans was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.
Dr. Evans has served as medical director, service director and child and adolescent unit director for several psychiatric hospitals within the Atlanta area. He was a consulting psychiatrist and treating clinician for the National Football League.
Dr. Evans is an adjunct Assistant Professor at Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and is the Clinical Instructor for several academic institutions where he teaches and supervises medical personnel and students. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.
Karen Mechanic, MD has been a Castle Connelly “Top Doctor” since 2013, a Philadelphia Magazine “Top Doctor” in 2018, and is now an Atlanta Magazine “Top Doctor”.
Dr. Mechanic trained at Yale and was a chief resident in the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit and is board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. Dr. Mechanic has been published in several peer reviewed publications and has been interviewed on radio, television, and in the print media about psychiatry. Dr. Mechanic has held academic appointments at Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Temple and Thomas Jefferson Medical Schools. She is an adjunct faculty member at both Emory and Morehouse Schools of Medicine. Dr. Mechanic is also the director for the Women’s Connection program at Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna. This program focuses on assisting women in dealing with issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, familial, professional and personal stress, grief and loss, substance use/abuse and disordered eating symptoms.
Dr. Ganielle E. Hooper is dual certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist.
She is bilingual in Spanish and also serves as a military officer in the Air National Guard. Dr. Hooper received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Georgia State University, her Masters of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from St. Catherine University. She has always enjoyed working with children to help them reach their full potential. Dr. Hooper enjoys volunteering in the local community, traveling and is married with 4 boys.
Taren Lazzari is an Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist PMHCNS-BC. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Georgia State University and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Georgia State University. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau through out her years of study. She the President of Georgia Division of the American Psychiatric Nursing Association in 2007 and 2008. She served as the Representative for the Psychiatric Practitioners on the PAC for Prescriptive Authority when GA wrote the first laws allowing nurse practitioners to be granted prescriptive authority in the state.
She has worked in a wide variety of healthcare populations and trained under Atlanta’s Top Doctor’s including Todd Antin, M.D., Larry Tune, M.D., Dr. Gary Figiel, M.D., and Dr. Marshall Nash. Her clinical expertise ranges from geriatrics to pediatrics and neurology includes working in nursing homes, outpatient, and inpatient facilities. With over 20 years of nursing practice she is well grounded both medication management and psychotherapy.
